The site is business-oriented but is for anyone interested in the topics of drum gear and specialty retailing. We want the site to be interesting to drummers, students, business owners, and prospective business owners.
What are your data sources?
We've built specialized web crawlers that periodically crawl each store's website to document information such as which products, services, and brands each store offers. We also gather information from social media APIs such as Yelp and YouTube. Most of the demographic data comes from the US Census Bureau, Statistics Canada, and private statistics platforms.
Does the site use artificial intelligence?
All of the graphics on the site (other than the store photos) are partially or entirely AI-generated. Parts of the Competitive Profile are AI-generated but are based on store and industry data we've collected and maintain. The Drum Shop Simulator uses AI for the location feasibility assessment, some of the suggested store names, and parts of the business plan and lean canvas.
Why isn't my local drum shop on the list?
We include stores that specialize in drums and percussion and that have a physical location where customers can shop. We also include a few online-only shops, but only if they have a commercially-zoned facility and allow customers to pick up orders in-person. If you know of a drum shop that meets these criteria and is not on the list, please let us know. Our goal is to have all the drum shops.
